Okaz font is inspired by the hand-lettered styles used in vintage Arabic posters (Afeshat). In those works, calligraphers often combined multiple script styles within a single composition to serve the visual balance. Okaz translates this approach into a font, balancing letter mass and space to work in body text and in bold, eye-catching headlines.
In designing the font, special attention was given to baseline stability, avoiding excessive vertical jumps that can cause collisions between lines. This was one of the main challenges, especially in handling the relationships between different letters. The result is a set of forms drawing on Diwani, Ruq’ah, and Naskh influences, harmonized into a coherent system that maintains both readability and visual rhythm without disrupting the text’s balance.
Okaz is available in four weights and includes a range of stylistic alternates, ligatures, symbols, and emojis.
